Located in Hiroshima Prefecture, Konishi Koi Farm is one of Japan’s most historic and influential Nishikigoi breeders. Founded in 1919 by Kakuichi Konishi, the farm has grown across four generations into a global name known for innovation, scale, and exceptional non-Gosanke jumbo varieties. Today, Konishi is led by third-generation president Joji Konishi, with fourth-generation breeder Makoto Konishi helping carry the family’s legacy forward.

Konishi is especially famous for creating the Karashigoi in 1997, a mustard-colored koi developed from carefully selected bloodlines for remarkable size, strength, and personality. Known for their friendly nature and impressive growth potential, Konishi Karashigoi are often chosen as “lead fish” in ponds, helping bring shy koi to the surface while adding a calm, powerful presence.

Beyond Karashigoi, the farm is highly respected for Kujaku, Shusui, Ochiba Shigure, and select jumbo varieties. Their Kujaku are admired for bright metallic skin and crisp reticulation, while their Shusui and Ochiba reflect Konishi’s focus on structure, clean patterning, and long-term development.
