Located in Futami Cho, Iyo City near Matsuyama on Japan’s island of Shikoku, Beppu Koi Farm is a small, family-run breeder known for producing koi with exceptional refinement and future promise. Far from the major koi-breeding centers of Niigata and Hiroshima, Beppu has earned a respected reputation through careful selection, limited production, and consistent success at high-level Japanese koi shows.
Founded in 1961, the farm is now managed by the Inoue brothers, Nobuhiro and Takaharu Inoue. Their modern breeding program is strongly influenced by elite Sakai Fish Farm bloodlines, shaped in part by Takaharu’s experience working at Sakai before returning to the family farm. This connection gives Beppu koi their recognizable strength: powerful frames, clean skin, rich color, and the ability to improve beautifully with age.
Beppu is especially admired for Gosanke, including Kohaku, Sanke, and Showa, with Sanke being particularly valued for crisp shiroji and deep beni. The farm has also gained attention for Ginrin Taisho Sanke, where classic three-color beauty is enhanced by brilliant scale shine that remains elegant as the koi grows. Alongside these, Beppu produces select Yamabuki Ogon and Kawarigoi with the same attention to quality.
Every quality Beppu koi reflects:
